    Cross-campus Academic Communication for Mutual Development

    In order to share the teaching information and resources, spread the wisdom in English classes, improve teachers’ abilities and teaching quality, and enhance the integrated construction of Maple Leaf Schools in Hubei province, Tony and Emily from Wuhan Maple Leaf, Lindsay and July from Jingzhou Maple leaf were the first teachers to participate in the cross-campus academic communication program organized by Greater English Project.

    为实现教学信息交流和教学资源共享,传播英语课堂教学智慧,提升教师素养和能力,加强湖北大区一体化建设,大英语工程分别安排了两次为期一周的换岗教研活动,让老师们有机会欣赏到别样的教学风景。武汉校区的江宽和齐媛媛老师,荆州校区的李慧玲和舒颖老师作为先发队伍参与了这两次换岗教研活动。

    During the program, the two experienced teachers from Wuhan Maple Leaf shared their teaching strategies and resources. Tony excels in designing various interesting class activities such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Word Puzzle, the Big Wheel and so on to catch students’ attraction and make classes more dynamic and motivated. All these innovative activities amazed us. Emily shared her organized preparation and brilliant ideas in class management, homework design, teaching plan and abundant teaching resources which could help teachers to arrange teaching and classes more efficiently and logically.

    换岗教研周期间,武汉校区两位教学经验丰富的老师在荆州分享了自己的教学策略和教学资源等,让大家受益匪浅。江宽老师主要分享了各种类型的课堂活动,结合游戏元素,如大富翁、迷宫、字谜、智力抢答等,激发学生学习兴趣,让英语课堂更加高效、有趣。这些新颖的活动设计让大家眼前一亮,原来英语课堂活动还可以如此丰富,创意十足。齐媛媛老师则从课堂管理、作业设计、教学计划及教学资源等方面进行了分享,让老师们在课堂教学和管理上更有逻辑性和目的性。



    Teachers from Jingzhou Maple Leaf also put forth some problems during their daily teaching and communicated with others. Every teacher made full use of this opportunity to observe classes, discuss what they met, and conclude what they learned during the program. Students’ thirst for knowledge and good discipline, along with teachers’ mutual help left a deep impression on Wuhan Maple Leaf teachers. As Emily said, the students’ potential is infinite; even though they are on different English levels, all teachers are always sincere and patient to every student; it is a respected spirit for all of us to learn.

    荆州的老师们也提出了一些在平时教学实践中遇到的问题,和大家进行探讨和交流。每位老师都积极观摩、讨论、思考,并消化、总结所学所感。荆州校区学生们的好学和良好的纪律、跨年段备课老师们的互帮互助都给两位换岗老师留下了深刻印象。正如齐媛媛老师所说:孩子的潜力是无限大的,无论学情怎样,每位老师都秉着一颗从不放弃的心,认真、耐心地对待每一个孩子,尊重每一颗种子,这是她值得尊敬和学习的地方。

    Before the program, Lindsay and July from Jingzhou Maple Leaf made full preparations. The students in Lindsay’s class had active minds, so she always encouraged students to think divergently. She herself also learned to obtain a better teaching effect by hand writing on the whiteboard. July made the best of her teaching advantages to teach happy English classes, but the unfamiliarity fouled up her teaching plan. After she observed Summer’s class, she was suddenly enlightened, and improved her teaching methods combining with the differences in students’ characteristics and class teaching schedules.

    荆州校区的李慧玲和舒颖老师在换岗前就积极沟通,充分准备。李慧玲老师所带班级的学生思维活跃,所以李老师注重鼓励和敦促学生发散思维,同时自己也采纳江宽老师的建议,通过板书来强化授课,矫正自己的教学习惯。舒颖老师则优先发挥自己的教学优势,用精心设计地lead in环节和游戏让学生快乐学习;可由于不熟悉课堂和分组情况,舒老师未能按照教学计划完成授课。带着疑问,她和备课组的老师们一起讨论,虚心学习。在观摩了武汉枫叶陶婧老师的课后,陶老师设计的思维导图、小组讨论、分组表演等环节让舒老师豁然开朗;随后她结合学生差异、授课进度、备课计划等实际情况,逐步对自己的教学方法进行了调整和改进。



    After the program, Lindsay and July shared what they learned in Wuhan with other teachers, such as Daily Dictation, Mind Map etc. They thought the inspiration and methods they obtained in cross-campus communication program is far more than what they got via internet tools only, and Wuhan Maple Leaf students’ good English learning habits and enthusiasm are worth advocating and encouraging in Jingzhou Maple Leaf.

    换岗结束后,李老师和舒老师将在武汉校区学到的“每日10词”听写模式、Mind Map等所得所获带回了荆州和其他老师进行分享和学习。两位老师表示,换岗教研活动带来的收获和感悟远大于通过社交软件的交流;武汉枫叶学子良好的英语习惯和学习积极性更是她们今后要在荆州枫叶提倡和鼓励的。


    The cross-campus academic communication program is a success. “It is a rare opportunity that teachers have access to going out to feel the warmth of Maple Leaf big family.” Tony said after the program. Indeed, this program not only contributes to the communication between Maple Leaf Schools, but broadens the teaching ideas, and enlightens the teaching thinking. Teachers and students at Maple Leaf Schools are lucky and happy -- Maple Leaf Schools provide good opportunities and platforms for teachers’ professional development, meanwhile teachers’ development benefits all Maple Leaf students.

        本学期的换岗教研活动,武汉和荆州校区的老师都收获颇丰。江宽老师说,“能走出自己熟悉的校区去感受其他枫叶大家庭的温暖是一次难得的机会。”换岗教研活动的开展,不仅促进了校区间交流,更开阔了教学思路,启发了教学创新思维。枫叶体系下的老师是幸福的,学校为每位老师提供职业发展的机会和平台;枫叶的学生是幸福的,老师的每一次成长和进步最终受益的将是我们枫叶学子。
