Kasi Humber is a two time graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. In 2016 she completed her Bachelor of Education degree while also receiving the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association medal, which is the top honour awarded annually by MUN Faculty of Education. Kasi began teaching at Maple Leaf in September of 2016 in the Year Two English department. The following year, she was privileged with the opportunity to lead the Fine Arts and Planning department. She was then also able to plan large events at which students could perform and present their art, such as Fine Arts Night and the English Arts Festival’s musical production, The Lion King. This year, Kasi is also a pat of the the Administration team, where she will be filling the role of Part Time Educational Coordinator. Kasi is humbled to be able to continue working diligently for her school, and will strive to offer students even more ways to express themselves and come together through the community of arts and theatre

    Personal Curriculum Perspective
To me, the new BC Curriculum is about big picture learning. It allows teachers to give students long-term tasks to fully engage with both process and perspective. Through this curriculum, teachers are more equipped to help students draw upon their learning across subjects through overt discussion of core competency. I believe that when students are taught that the basic skills they learn across subjects are inherently connected through these competencies, they will be more likely to use learning they have previously encountered to help them contextualize new ideas. This global learning perspective lends itself incredibly well to cross-curricular collaboration between departments and for students to have the chance to demonstrate their growth in ways that, before, were not possible.
