Maggie Power attended Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, just outside of her hometown, Logy Bay.  Here, completed her undergraduate Bachelor degrees in Arts and Education. After graduating in 2015, Maggie worked as a teacher-on-call with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. In September of 2017, she began working with Maple Leaf at the Wuhan campus.
In her time at Maple Leaf, Maggie has worked with the Year 1 English department, Planning department, and the Social Studies department. She is now looking forward to beginning work in the role of Educational Coordinator.  Hoping to help students foster creativity and confidence, Maggie taught ballet to students after school in her first year, and will be helping to coordinate the Tea House and English Arts Festival this coming year. She is looking forward to another year of teaching and travel in China

    Personal Curriculum Perspective
As an English Language Arts teacher, the new BC curriculum is, in many ways, a dream come true. Allowing students to choose content that interests and excites them makes the classroom a more enjoyable place for everyone. Personally, I have taken the opportunity to encourage social responsibility by opening students’ eyes to global social injustices and human rights issues, and the core competencies lead students to practicing compassion. Further, I appreciate the encouragement for students to look inward, reflecting on their learning practices and their abilities to grow as a person.
